Measuring your window for perfect fitting drapes











To make sure that your luxury drapes are a great looking addition to your room, not only do you need to make sure that the fabric, pattern, and colour are right, but you also need to ensure that they are the right size.

Measuring and purchasing the correct sized curtains is critical in ensuring that you enhance your room by installing new drapes, so here are four simple steps that can help you make sure that you get your curtains at the right size. Firstly, you need to decide what kind of curtains will suit your room. Do you want floor length curtains, cafe curtains, tab tops, or any other kind?

Next you’ll need to work out where to place the curtain rod. Standard practice is to place it 15cm (6 inches) above the window frame.

Third, how much sunlight do you want to block out? How much privacy do you want? Normally, for complete blockout, 15cm above the window frame, 5 to 8cm each side, and 5 to 8cm at the bottom will suffice.

Lastly, once you have your curtain measurements, double with width that you have measured to allow for full, bunched curtains, which will give the best privacy and block out most sunlight.
